EARLY MARSH ORCHID DACTYLORHIZA INCARNATA
The not so Early Marsh Orchid around the Crested Newt Ponds.
Not naturally there despite what they might tell you.
Also slowly dying out and not been touched or looked after for years, again despite what they may tell you, lol.
Common spotted will be in flower any day and with luck the Bee Orchids about a week.
All very close together and I think the Pyrimidal Orchids should be about a week too, depending on sun and temperature now.

GREAT CRESTED NEWT LARVAE - TRITURUS CRISTATUS
The ponds I visit regularly have produced larvae of the Crested Newt, Triturus cristatus.
Oddly they seem to have switched ponds, which I did think would happen to be honest and I did warn them about this but they know better while being paid tens millions a year to manage nature BADLY, lol.
I also spotted a female Palmate Newt surfacing for air which I have not seen before in this pond.
Lets hope the chemicals they were liberally spraying around the ponds do not kill the newts off. Amphibians are particularly sensitive to chemicals due to the fact that they breath through their skin.
I have only ever used ONE chemical on sick amphibians and would be VERY wary about using anything else.

GOLDEN RUDD IN A SECRET PLACE
Little pond I know that seems to be teeming with these guys year after year.
Numbers just increase too and did a double take the first year I saw them, lol, as I thought they were Goldfish?!
So the Gold Rudd Scardinius erythropthalmus
Also have a YouTube Video or four.

TURTLE BUT NO DOVES
On my way back from a little excursion I spot one of two Red Eared Terrapins that live in a brook I cycle past a great deal.
This is a HUGE female that fooled me TWICE now into thinking she was a European Pond Tortoise due to her shape.
SHe was in a different part of the brook she normally inhabits and without her smaller mate I used to see with her.
Being half the size the other is likely a male and I have not seen any young Terrapins nor have I anywhere else I have seen the adults.

A RED TAILED GREEN BEETLE ON A POPPY
A small iredescent Green Beetle with a red tail milling around the centre of an Oriental Poppy, Papaver orientalis.
I do not know the name of this beetle but its colour along with its surroundings made for a few good picture.
